LEARN MORE ABOUT THE RSQ X CAN NATIONAL PARK COLLECTION

National Park Week offers nature-lovers, outdoors enthusiasts, and the general public alike the chance to learn about and celebrate the 400+ national parks located in the United States alone. From April 22 to April 30, the National Park Service and its affiliated partners will host a variety of educational activities and specially-curated programs to encourage public appreciation and reverence for these legally protected sites.
In celebration of National Park Week, RSQ, a Tillys-exclusive brand, and the Creative Action Network (CAN), a marketplace for artists and advocates to design and sell goods, have launched a collection of men’s and women’s T-shirts featuring artwork inspired by nature. Read on to preview styles from this exclusive launch and learn fast facts about these reservoirs of natural beauty.
Death Valley
Located near the California-Nevada border, Death Valley spans over 5,000 mi² of barren, inhospitable landscape. Despite its unforgiving climate, the park’s fascinating topography draws more than one million visitors per year.

-
- Death Valley earned its ominous name thanks to a group of pioneers who passed through the land in the mid-19th century during one of the area’s chilly winters.
-
- The park’s Badwater Basin, an expansive salt flat, marks the lowest point in all of North America at 282 feet below sea level.
-
- At 3.4 million acres, Death Valley is the largest National Park in the contiguous United States.
-
- Death Valley is the site of the highest recorded air temperature on Earth at 134° Fahrenheit.
Grand Canyon
Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park is a testament to the uncompromising power of nature. Carved by the path of the Colorado River over millions of years, the canyon’s striking formations consist of exposed rock dating as far back as 2 billion years.

-
- There are an estimated ~1,000 hidden caves scattered in and around the Grand Canyon, only one of which, the Cave of the Domes, is open to the public.
-
- According to Hopi mythology, the first peoples entered the world through a sipapu, a small opening found at the pit of a kiva, or ceremonial space. Hopi tradition pinpoints the Grand Canyon as the site of the original sipapu; thus, the park is of great spiritual significance to modern-day Puebloans.
-
- The Grand Canyon’s “Great Unconformity” refers to a geological phenomenon whereby newer sedimentary rock rests directly on top of another, much older rock layer. The age disparity between these layers amounts to several hundreds of millions of years, leaving scientists stumped as to what happened to the rest of the geological record.
Joshua Tree
Joshua Tree National Park, named for its vast abundance of yucca palms, is a kind of paradise for outdoors enthusiasts: visitors can enjoy camping, hiking, climbing, birdwatching, and a variety of other recreational activities in and around the site’s nine established campgrounds.

-
- The California park sits at a kind of ecological crossroads, encompassing three different ecosystems: the Mojave and Colorado Desert, and a high-elevation pinyon pine and juniper zone.
-
- According to the Bortle scale measuring night sky brightness, Joshua Tree sees some of Southern California’s darkest nights, making it a popular site for amateur astronomy enthusiasts.
-
- The earliest known inhabitants of the area belonged to the Pinto Culture, residing in what is now known as Joshua Tree some 15,000 years ago.
Yosemite
Known for its breathtaking waterfalls, towering cliffs, and impressive biodiversity, Yosemite National Park offers no shortage of gorgeous sights for its roughly 4 million annual visitors, rendering it a popular filming location.

-
- The focus of conservation efforts by environmentalists John Muir and Galen Clark, Yosemite Valley was instrumental in the development of the National Park System.
-
- Yosemite’s more than 25 waterfalls allow for a rare hydrological phenomenon known as a moonbow, whereby moonlight refracts in water droplets and forms a lunar rainbow.
-
- More than 400 vertebrate species call Yosemite home, thanks to the park’s rich variety of high-quality habitats. One such species, the American black bear, is notorious for vandalizing cars in search of food.
